You can still claim the IRS’s $1400 stimulus payment
The payments are sent by paper check, or they can be deposited with the bank information on your 2023 tax return.
The funds provided were the final round of stimulus payments issued in the wake of the pandemic. It depends on the adjusted gross income. The amount is reduced at higher income levels.
Individual filers are eligible for $1,400 in full if they had an AGI of no more than $75,000. The credit phase-outs at $80,000.
Married Couples Filing Jointly can qualify for $2,800 in credit if they have a combined income below $160,000 by 2021. The credit phase out at $160,000.
Dependents could earn $1,400 in 2025 regardless of age.
Tax Day in 2025 will be your last opportunity to receive a refund if one is owed. This includes those who are eligible but have left the form blank, and also eligible individuals who still haven’t submitted a return.
The IRS reports that more than 1,1 million Americans still have refunds not claimed from the tax year of 2021. These refunds total over $1 billion.
The deadline is less than one month away, and most of these are taxpayers that haven’t yet filed Forms 1040 for the year.
The median refund for 2021 non-filers is $781. Earned Income Tax Credits (EITC) could also be missed by many lower and middle-income earners. The EITC was valued at up to $6,728 per family.
Tax return filing options for 2021
The deadline for filing your return from 2025 is April 15, 2025. You may need to hurry to find older documents, particularly if you don’t work at the same company as you did in 2020.
There are several tax options available.
Create a tax account. Sign in to the Individual Account on IRS.gov. You should then be able access information about your account, income and wage statements, letters of verification for non-filing, and transcripts from past returns.
Request Copies If you do not have the Forms 1098,1099, or 5498 from 2021 your employer, bank, and any other payees are expected to supply them.
Request a transcript via mail. To request a transcript or return by post, go to the Transcripts by Post page at IRS.gov. You may also call the 800-908-9146 automated number. This might not work if you are pressed for time.
You can request a transcript of your wage and income. This transcript will show details such as W-2s, 1099s, Forms 1098 and 5498s, and IRA contributions. This data should allow you to fill out your return for 2021.
The service warns that written transcript requests may take up to “several” weeks. It encourages filers “to try alternative options before filing.”
